Four months in the life of Fluro
Hey, I’m Sofia! I’m new to team Fluro and really excited about my new role as Account Executive. I can’t wait to get to grips with all of the creative aspects of working in a full service creative agency, and how to manage different projects like digital campaigns and brand strategies.
I previously worked in marketing for a large label manufacturer, so I have worked with creative agencies, but account management is completely new for me. At my old job we were looking for a new creative agency and of course, I put Fluro forward. They won – Obviously! I knew then what a great agency they were and that’s why I was so excited when the opportunity came up to join them.
First few months
My first few months at Fluro were challenging. Starting a new job in a global pandemic would be. But Fluro have been great. They’re such a bubbly and welcoming bunch. I was soon wearing my dressing gown on video calls and being named the crazy cat lady!
When I first started, I was getting to know everyone and being introduced to different clients and current projects. However, this didn’t mean that I was necessarily busy every day. This was probably one of my main struggles because I felt guilty that I didn’t have a lot to do. However, I spoke with the team and they reassured me that this was completely normal. Not only was I new, but it was also a new year and not everyone had returned to work. People were still getting over their food and alcohol intake from Christmas, I get it!
Whenever I found myself with some downtime, it would never be for very long. My colleagues would give me lots of ideas how to improve and learn new skills. Everything from listening to podcasts, doing some online progression and researching clients had a big impact for me.
Getting a focus
I’m now working alongside Hannah, who has been an Account Manager here at Fluro for 4 years. I support Hannah with her clients, get involved in projects from start to finish and have surprised myself with my growing confidence. Learning is still part of my routine, but on-the-job education is the best way. I will hopefully be managing my own accounts by the end of the year.
I’ve been given some clients of my own to look after, which is great! And now with lockdown is easing, I’ve been able to start coming into the office. Although there are only a small handful of us in, the banter certainly hasn’t let me down.
What are Fluro like to work for?
Before I started at Fluro, I received a branded box full of goodies and vouchers to welcome me to the team. It was a lovely personal touch and made me feel excited to start working for them.
Everyone on the team is really social, we have recently introduced ‘huddles’ once every two weeks for an hour. A ‘huddle’ is basically a virtual chinwag with different members of the team. It’s a great way of getting to know people who I wouldn’t necessarily speak to on a day-to-day basis.
We also start a bit later on a Friday so we can go on our ‘Fluro Friday Walks’. We go on our individual walks and share photos of our journey. It’s so easy to get chained to your desk, so having this excuse to get out and about is a great way to end the working week.
Around once a month we will get together on a Friday night (virtually for the time being) and play some form of game, share a drink and have a laugh. It’s very amusing seeing the competitive ones lose. I’m currently involved in organising the next one and I have a few ideas up my sleeve which will get the team talking I’m sure!
Even though I’ve only been here just over four months, I have already learned so much. I’ve also realised how much I have to learn. It’s so nice to work for a company where progression is one of their key focuses. Fluro is always looking forward. Working alongside such talented, organised people is very inspiring and I can’t wait to really get stuck in.
My advice on starting a new job in a pandemic? Be yourself, have the mindset that there is always room for improvement, never doubt yourself and stay positive.
